Are you all aware that if mental health is not treated as soon as possible, it will get worse? Yes of course. So, there are solutions to overcome mental health problems that I want to share. If we have a friend or relative who is mentally ill, we should not leave him or her alone. First, we can allow them to share as much or as little as they want because speaking requires high trust and courage due to not everyone being able to do it. We also need to listen carefully to what they want to convey. Try to repeat what they said back to them to make sure we understood it.
The important thing we all need to remember is never to try to diagnose or guess their feelings. If you are not able to understand their condition, we should not punish them at will because we are not physicians or trained counselors. Maybe we already have given advice and offered support, but try not to make assumptions about what is wrong or get in too quickly with our diagnosis or solution as we know them for a long time.
The third solution to overcome mental health problems is we must keep questions open-ended. Try to say "Why don’t you tell me how you are feeling?" rather than "I can see you are feeling very low". Trying to keep the language used does not have to upset them. And of course, we need to give them time to answer and do not ask them many questions. We must also advise them not to be controlled by their feelings. If they are too emotional, it is maybe they will act out of control.
Now, let’s find out what we need to do if we experience mental problems. We must approach and surround ourselves with good people. This is because people who have strong family or social relationships are generally healthier than those who do not have a support network. We can make plans with family members and friends who are always supportive or find activities where we can meet new people, such as clubs, classes, or support groups.
The next solution to overcome mental health problems is we need to learn how to deal with our stress. For example, the thing that makes us dislike it, we have to stay away from it. We can also do skills training which is a one-minute stress strategy, do exercise, relax and do the activities we like. We can also throw a smile at everyone because research shows that laughter can boost our immune system, ease pain, relax our body, and reduce stress. We need to know how to take care of our bodies physically properly. Thus, we can improve our mental health. We need to eat nutritious food, avoid smoking, exercise, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep.
Another step to overcoming mental health problems is that we need to set realistic self-goals. We can determine what we want in life as in academics professionally and not in a hurry. We can write down the steps needed to achieve our goals. When we have a mental health problem, we need to get help from a trusted person as soon as possible. This is because maybe they can help calm us down. For Muslims and non-Muslims, they need to know how to be patient in sincerely accepting the fate of life that happens in their lives because every fate is different. Therefore, we need to be more patient when facing problems in our lives. Never regret the decisions we have made in the past.
Breathing is an annoying cliche at this point, but that’s because the best way to calm anxiety is to breathe deeply. While fighting our anxiety, we shifted to the concept of "5 3 7" breathing. Therefore, we need to inhale for 5 seconds, hold our breath for 3 seconds, and inhale for 7 seconds. This gentle repetition sends a message to the brain that everything is okay. Before long, our heart will slow its pace and we will begin to relax. We can also do this breathing technique when we are angry.
The last solution to overcome mental health problems is we should think opposite-to-emotion thinking. Opposite-to-emotion thinking is how it sounds. We act in the opposite way our emotions tell us to act. Let’s say we feel frustrated and have a desire to isolate ourselves. In contrast to emotions, emotions will tell us to go out and be around people with the opposite action of isolation. When we feel anxious, we need to overcome something soothing. When we feel beads, move on to something that stabilizes us. This technique may be one of the hardest to play, but if we can manage it, the results are incredible.
